The etablishment of the Centre of Advanced Research in Nano Science and Technology (CARNT) in our L.N. Mithila University, Darbhanga, - is the historic event. To my mind Nano-technology is a sort of biomimicry. Undoubtedly Nano Science is the study of structures and materials on the scale of nanometres. Its quite simple, when structures of materials are made small enough- in the range of nanometre size- they can take on interesting and useful properties. Since technology is itself the application of science, Nanotechnology is the manipulation of matter on an atomic, molecular and supramolecular scale. It is something wonderful. One nanometre is a billionth of a metre i.e. 10-9 of a metre. There are 25,400,000 nanometres in an inch. A sheet of newspaper is about 100,000 nanometres thick. Therefore, I, on behalf of the university welcome you all to this land of wonders of Nano Science and Nanotechnology.

I wish for its grand success.

Vice-Chancellor

Prof. Surendra Pratap Singh
